Bolivia is a land locked country. Often referred to as the “Tibet of the Americas” this country is the highest northernmost Latin American republic. Being credited as the only country in the entire South American continent for harboring the highest percentage of indigenous population Bolivia is a very culture and belief driven country. This unique, high moral imbibed society is what makes this country an exciting and intriguing tourist destination.

Before the conquest of Spain in 1538, this country supported various civilizations starting with the Tiwanakans in as early as the 2nd century BC. These were followed by the Moxos and the Mollos which finally lay path for the Inca’s. The Inca’s controlled this region till the Spanish came over and finally took over.It was in 1825 that Bolivia became a republic and got its name from the person who drafted its first constitution- Simon Bolivar.

The landscape of this country is dazzled by the magnificent Andes and crystal clear lakes. The simple, heartwarming and welcoming people in this country, makes the visit immensely cherish able. The ancient art of handicrafts and weaving is still kept alive by the people here and the articles made by them is very popular amongst the tourists who visit the old fashioned towns of Coroico,Rurrenabaque,Sorata and Tarija . La Paz- the capital of Bolivia is the capital of highest altitude found nowhere else in the world. The ruins found in the capital city and the old St Augustine church are the testaments of the past which Bolivia is proud of. A recent earthquake exposed some ancient stones near the foundation of the St Augustine church. These stones are believed to be of the Inca era. Just a hop away from the city of La Paz is present the settlement of Tiwanaku which is a stark reminiscent of the oldest American civilization.

The mountainous picturesque area of Cerro Rico along with the town of Potosi is known for its muddy silver mines which is the perfect play spot for any treasure hunter. The mines have over 5000 entrances and interconnected tunnels. The wildlife can be tracked in the Amazon basin along with enchanting treks in the valley of the Yungas ,the Cordillera Real and the region along Tupiza. A boat ride along Titicaca-the world’s highest navigable lake is truly worth experiencing. Also, the landscapes present in the brackish salt beds of the Salar de Uyuni is simply breathtaking. The town of Sucre has the Cathedral of Sucre which in itself is a culmination of several eras. With its construction spanning almost 3 centuries marked influence in its construction can be seen of the various era during that time. Ranging from the Renaissance to Baroque this structure is the perfect amalgamation of the best of the era’s.

Found spread over south eastern Bolivia  is The Pantanal which houses endless stretches of land and water habitats, some of the best ecosystems in the world.
