Before being colonized by the Portuguese and the Dutch between 1500 and 1820, Brazil was home to the native Indians. In 1889 the rule of Pedro I ended by means of a military coup after which Brazil adopted a constitution similar to that being followed in the USA. Following a string of military and civilian rulers in was finally in the year 1934 that a new constitution was drafted for this country by Vargas who subsequently went on to become the dictator of this country too.
