When on a holiday in China every traveler is bound to get the feeling of excitement and curiosity as if they are on a treasure hunt. A true treasure cove is what China is all about. This country has contributed a lot to the world in the form of tea, paper, ancient Chinese medicine and silk while the Great wall and the Forbidden City continue to stand in testimony of the rich ancient history that is engraved in the country’s name.  China is also being lauded for being the most populous country in the world besides being the third largest country in terms of total area. What is of significance here is the role played by China in the development of civilization in the world. Several known travelers of the past eras have written lots of positive things about China and how it was a major contributor towards the development of the world.  China has been under the Communist rule for long and during that duration the doors of this fabulous nation were almost closed for the outside world. This further increased the curiosity within the travelling community. With China adopting a much liberal policy in later times it turned towards modernization and with no dearth of natural treasures and rich heritage locked up within the walls of the country till now there was a swarm of tourists entering the country. The main aim of this huge influx of travelers on a trip to China was to view what lies beyond the walls which enclosed this magnificent land.

Historical evidences go on to suggest that civilization found its footing in China way back during the stone ages. In the early times there were basically three dynasties which managed to make a mark for them and ruled China for a significant duration. These dynasties were the Zhou Dynasty followed by the Tang dynasty and subsequently the Song dynasty. It was during the reins of the Tang dynasty that Buddhism was introduced in China and the country prospered by means of its arts and crafts. The last dynasty of Song was wiped off by the invasion of Genghis Khan. His grandson later on went on to lay the foundation stones for the Yuan dynasty under whose rule the famous Forbidden city was constructed. The Ming Dynasty followed soon after and left its mark in the history of the country by undertaking the construction of the mammoth Giant wall of China. The monarchies subsequently gave way to a republic set up under the aegis of Dr Sun Yat Sen. The subsequent world war’s did not allow the ideology of Dr Sen to take shape and subsequently it was the Red Army of Mao Tse-tung. A new liberal economic policy could not be established in the country way until 1978 and it was then that the doors of this country opened to the outside world.

The structure which has become synonymous with China is undoubtedly the Great wall. Being credited for being the only man made structure which can be seen from the moon the Great wall apans around 6000 Km across the length and breadth of China. Though the wall was built with the aim of keeping out invaders from China it is its supersize which amazes everybody. Situated in Beijing is the Forbidden city which is the best example that anyone could find in order to view the grandiose and richness of Chinese architecture. The complex of this city has about 800 buildings which till date bathe in its ancient glory. Also worth visiting is the city of Suzhou which is constructed on a network of canals and has to its name 3 most beautiful and incredible gardens. Specially created with amazing aesthetics these gardens create a sense of calmness and tranquility. The tomb of emperor Qin Shi Huang situated in Xi’an presents a sight of amazement. The tomb of the emperor is surrounded by 8000 life size figures of warriors made of terracotta standing as if to guard the tomb. Some of these warriors are standing on foot while others are on horses or chariots. Incredible! It is surely a sight which one has to see for them to believe it.

China is magical, mystical and intruding. A visit to China seems like a trip to a land mentioned in fables. Surely a reality which seems like a dream!
