The Republic of Equatorial Guinea is in Central Africa. It consist of two territories- Rio Muni which further consists of many small islands is one. Bioko Island and Anobon Island, which form the insular region, is the second. Although the name is misleading, the equator does not pass over the country. The capital is Malabo. The main languages spoken here are Spanish, Portuguese and French. This country has gained in importance especially after oil reserves were discovered here in 1996.

The country has been a colony of the Portuguese for a very long time, and it is only recently in the 20th century that they became united under one country and one name. The people here are mainly of Bantu origin, although like in other African countries, there are many other sub tribes, each with their own dialects and customs. In addition, a lot of people from other countries also come to this country besides Asians for work on the plantations.

It has once been said that it is ironical that the countries with intense inner turmoil, are usually the most beautiful countries with much to offer. The same can be said to be true of this country too. Inspite of its past, tourists are attracted by the scenery which includes many tropical forests and snow capped volcanoes. Malabo is a cosmopolitan capital, located on Bioko Island. One can see the Pico Malabo volcano in the horizon too. The influences of Spain is visible in the town, especially in the architecture and differently styled buildings. There are many open plazas here and lots of markets too, which are often very busy places. Luba, which is the second largest town in Bioko, lies on the west coast beneath many volcanic peaks.

This town in addition to having a port is also important for the white sandy beaches that can be found here. Bata is another important big town, with a huge population and was once the capital of Equatorial Guinea. This place is also close to some beaches , which are not frequented by many people such as the Mbini beach. If you truly want to get away from the world, a trip here is a must then. More importantly, the beaches are safe and one can swim there too. Mountain climbing on a volcano is a dream for many, but this country gives you the chance to make it a reality. But there may be hindrances too.

This being a government protected area, one may need special permission to undertake such a hike, and secondly, one must also find out at what times of the year such a trip can be undertaken. The Monte Alen park, which is situated in the Niefang chain region, has a variety of flora and fauna. In addition, the added beauty of  the falls and rapids of the Uoro and Iana rivers, makes the park even more alluring. The park is believed to have more than 105 species of animals, with 16 species of primates.

Equatorial Guinea offers travelers a getaway from the world, thereby ensuring that your holiday is well spent.
