Iran provides an amazing mix of art, architecture, heritage, handicrafts and a multicultural society. Located in the Middle East, the central and the eastern portions of this country are majorly barren and deserted with a rugged mountainous landscape. The cities of Tehran, Shiraz and Persepolis have managed to etch a mark indicating their presence on the world map as popular places of visit. This country is a treasure chest of wonders and marvels capable of satisfying you’re cultural, traditional and local hunger for Iran.
The creation and documentation of the Persia, the present day Iran, is credited to King Cyrus the great who ruled the Achaemenian dynasty. Iran exchanged various hands notably being those of Alexander the great, the Parthians and the Sassanian empire before being completely established under the Islamic law by the Arabs. The Arabs proclaimed supremacy on Iran till 1050 AD before giving way to the Turkish rulers in 1051 AD. It was under the rule of the Safavid dynasty in 1502 where it was passed by the Mongols that Persia reach incredible peaks of its cultural and power forces. With times to come, Persia was taken over by the Afghans and later by a completely new and unknown dynasty- the Ghajar’s lead by Agah Muhhamad Khan in the year 1779. After the second world war, Russia and UK exercised influence over Iran which led to the rise of an internal coup lead by Colonel Reza Khan. Colonel Khan buried the seeds of industrialization and modernization in Iran by professing the importance of elections and subsequently went on to become the first Prime Minister of Iran.
Topping the list of the most popular destination amongst visitors visiting Iran is the capital city of Tehran. Tehran is a very special and unique city in ways by which it portrays a very modern, sophisticated and chic exterior and still at the same time manages to retain a traditional, society oriented interior. The city has the perfect balance of modern day elegance blended in harmony with its cultural charm. This blend can be very easily depicted from its vast ranges of tourist attractions which range from the regular icons of its Zoo, national library, its city theatre and a horde of cultural centers to its enormous range of museums which have succeeded in keeping alive the country’s rich cultural legacies. Not to missed are Abgineh Museum of Iranian pottery, the Red Abbasi Museum which houses rare and priceless Iranian calligraphy samples and paintaings, the Rassam Cultural and art foundation of Carpets and the famous Carpet museum. Also worth a peek are the Glass and ceramics museum as well as the Jewels museum.
Situated northwest from Tehran is the city of Tabriz. This city has to its honor the restored Blue Mosque and the covered Qaisariyeh Bazaar. Enclosed and marked by the ancient cities of Hamadan, Kermanshah and Khorramabad is the Golden Triangle. Associated with the glorious past of Iran, this triangle is best known for being the pass route for the famous Silk route. Designated by UNESCO as a world heritage site is the city of Esfahan. Claming position of being the most popular destination in this city is its central square. The city’s Friday mosque is also undoubtly one of the city’s finest building. The various other mosques, bridges, gardens and monuments doting the city too are worth a visit.
The country of Iran has successfully learned the art of preserving its old and then presenting it with a modern exterior. An art well appreciated all..
