A holiday to Kyrgyzstan has adventure written all over it. This friendly country of Kyrgyzstan situated at the backdrop of the magnificent Tian Shan Mountains has occupied a position of historic importance since olden times when it proved out to be an important stop on the famed Silk route. Rugged, beautiful, vast and charming best describe this country. Kyrgyzstan was once a part of the Soviet Union and ever since the disintegration of the Soviet Union this country has had to work real hard to cement its position in the world map. It has done good for itself and made for itself a prominent mark on the tourism map of the world. This remote Asian country of Kyrgyzstan where nomads trek the landscape is loved my trekkers and mountain climbers who find the rugged terrain of the country best for these sports. Mountains, glaciers, lakes and grasslands add to the natural delights that Kyrgyzstan has to offer.
Nomads have been associated with the history of Kyrgyzstan since long. They made their presence felt in the times between the 7th and the 17th century in the Yenisey basin. But they were soon overpowered by a string of other empires which included the Moguls, the Turks, the Arabs, the Chinese and later on the Russians. Though the rest of the empires stayed on for not so long it was the Russian dominance in the area which lasted the longest. The Russians reached Kyrgyzstan around the 19th century to stake claim on this country. they continued to find instances to show their dominance in this region. It was not until the 1990 that the Kyrgyz decided to have their voice being heard and it gave way to land based clashes between Kyrgyzstan and its neighbours. This year also witnessed a first of its kind when general elections were held for the first time in Kyrgyzstan. The dreams of the country finally came true in 1991 when Kyrgyzstan became a republic and has its own independent standing in the world community.
The capital city of this beautiful mountain country is Bishkek. This city has an amazing collection of museums and other private displays of artist works and old Soviet and Kyrgyz architecture. Puppets, pottery, paintings and jewelry all are showcased here in these museums in all their finery. There are several locations situated around the capital city which are very popular with the tourists. These include the ancient minaret of Burana Tower and the natural reserve of Ala-Archa Canyon. Also located nearby are the ancient dwellings of Uzgen and Osh. But the thing that most tourists visit Kyrgyzstan for are the mountains which they scale. These peaks include the likes of Pobedy, Khan-Tengri and other such peaks situated in the Tian Shan Mountain range. Also worth a visit is the salt water lake of Issyk Kul. The area around the lake is famous for its therapeutic value and tourists flock this area in search of thermal springs, natural massages and mud bath treatment which are supposed to be good to cure diseases and other bodily ailments.
Even though Kyrgyzstan may not have the best of the modern facilities but it makes up for this by the abundant display of natural landscapes that it has on offer. Lush green spaces, lakes and towns surrounded by tall mountains bestow a radiating charm to Kyrgyzstan.
