The London film festival is undoubtedly one of the most popular events showcased in the United Kingdom which has subsequently made its mark as Britain’s best and biggest movie event. This film festival provides spectators with a whole wide array of special screenings and events to choose from which are designed to suit individual tastes and likings in cinema. The London film festival also provides the guests the unique opportunity to meet some of the best movie director’s in the world who come here to present their work and also get a chance to experience the world of cinema by getting the chance to participate in film workshops happening here during the course of the festival. There is a wide range of movies showcased from all over the world during the festival at about 13 different venues. The different genres of films put up for screening include documentaries, classics, short movies, animations etc. The 2008 London film festival beginning from Wednesday, 15th of October and going on till Saturday, 30th of October is touted to be bigger than ever with a big, majestic lineup of movies and events ready to dazzle the audiences.
This year the movies lined up for screening include an impressive list of 189 movies and 108 short screening events summing up 15 world movies, 20 European movies and 119 UK movies. The big hitters slated to be showcased during this year’s London Film festival include the likes of Oliver Stone’s “W.”, Michael Winterbottom’s “Genova“;Ari Folman’s animated documentary “Waltz With Bashir,” Steven Soderbergh’s revolutionary biopic “Che” and Woody Allen’s “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” which has already been put out for public viewing at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Also playing at the event would be Rian Johnston’s “Brick” follow-up “The Brothers Bloom,” the family gala premiere” The Secret Of Moonacre” and Jonathan Demme’s “Rachel Getting Married”. Also credited to this film festival is the first public screening of the highly anticipated James Bond movie “ Quantum of Solace” on the 29th of October right after its world Premiere in London the same day. Also included in the list of films during the London Film Festival are the works of several upcoming British movie makers including Richard Attenborough’s “Closing The Ring,” Asif Kapadia’s “Far North” and Nick Broomfield’s “Battle for Haditha”. Also forming a major part of this movie extravaganza is the presence of well known movie celebrities who are expected to attend and grace the London Film festival this year.
Expected to be seen as a part of this list are important names of the likes of Wes Anderson, Laura Linney, Steve Buscemi, Robert Rodriguez and Paul Greengrass, and also Tom Cruise, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, David Cronenberg, David Lynch, Naomi Watts, Sienna Miller, Halle Berry, Ang Lee, Jason Schwartzman and Sean Penn. Having the honor to open the film festival is the UK premiere David Cronenburg’s Eastern Promise’s while the curtains will be finally pulled down for the London Film festival on the last day by Wes Anderson’s directed Darjeeling Limited. This list of works successfully gathered and accumulated for the 2008 London Film Festival is a clear indication towards the love of movies harbored by the British film audiences.
