For people loving the outdoors there can be no better opportunity than a holiday in Mongolia. Mongolia is a country of no demarcations. Everything seems to be in this wide open area. A destination where the sky at its deep blue best stretches on till your eyes can see and then it seems to merge with the horizon; where the crystal clear waters of the lake reflect back as pure mirrors and where sudden patches of lush green forests sparkle as emeralds on the desert land.  The natives of Mongolia which are traditionally nomads are renowned for their warm hospitality which infuses in the guest the feeling of being wanted and at home. Intermittent houses and other dwellings can be seen on this otherwise barren land. This harsh and arid land which is generally associated with fierce warriors has in it all the potential to provide you with a once in a life time holiday opportunity. Luxuries in Mongolia might not be easy to find but there is no limitations to the amount of natural beauty sprinkled on this destination by Mother Nature. High mountains, rolling plains, dense forests, picturesque lakes, arid deserts it all here in Mongolia.

The vast open spaces of Mongolia have been inhabited since thousands of years. Initially the Mongols lived here in the form of small groups and clans. There was the absence of unity amongst them all and they carried on as individual entities. It was Genghis Khan who managed to unite these sporadic Mongol clans and led to their unification. After his death it was his grandson Kublai Khan who propelled the Mongol empire to new heights of prosperity. Such was their might that they managed to relinquish control over China, Korea and Hungary. The rise of the Ming dynasty in China saw the Chinese drawing out the Mongols who then limited their power within the limits of Mongolia. Frequent disputes and feuds started to erupt within themselves leading to weakening of their might. Taking advantage of this fact the Manchu dynasty of China took over control of Mongolia and made it a part of the Chinese empire. It was not before 1921 that Mongolia managed to free itself from the clutches of China with the help of USSR and declared its freedom.

With most of the population of Mongolia living as nomads there are very few developed areas of human settlement. The capital city of Ulaanbaatar is the most developed city in Mongolia. This city is the crux of all economic and cultural activities taking place in Mongolia. Present in Mongolia is the world’s highest desert, the Gobi desert. The now small and crumbling town of Kharkhorum was once a place of strategic importance owing to the facts that firstly it was the capital of the Mongol Empire under the rule of the legendary Genghis Khan and secondly because it was on the route of the important Silk Route which passed through the boundaries of Mongolia. The ruins of the city helps the traveler get an idea of how rich and glorious was the past which was associated with this city. The Erdene Zuu Buddhist monastery is the most important site of worship situated in this town. Home to the famous Takhi horses is the Khustain Nuruu Nature Reserve. Another natural treat not worth missing is the Khovsgol Nuur lake. Situated near the border that Mongolia shares with Russia this lake is by far one of the most beautiful lake present anywhere. A drive to the Gobi or the Steppes is surely one experience which is bound to leave you on a high.

Nature in its most purest form is present in Mongolia. The country of wild horses, open skies, nomads and warriors awaits with open hands to welcome you inside this land of beauty. The land called Mongolia.
