The ancient cities of Al-Balid and Samhuram are also popular tourist destinations located in this area. The sea facing town of Sur is a fishing town as well as a trading port all rolled into one destination. The place is known for its traditional ship building art and houses a maritime museum too. The town of Nizwa which was traditionally famous for its copper and silver handicrafts is a huge palm oasis and is largely dominated by Oman’s oldest and largest known castles. The region of Jebel Akhdar which translates into ‘The Green Mountain’ is famous for the date palm groves, valleys and picturesque villages that it enveloped within itself.
The 17th century palace of Jabrin is very much popular amongst the tourists for its painted wooden ceilings and the enchanting magnificent view provided from the palace. A truly breath taking experience by all standards. The Ancient town of Bahla which dates back to the third millennium BC is a world Heritage site and is popular for its seven miles of defensive wall covering the entire town, its souks and its pottery.
