The sheltered small cocoon of the Palestinian territories located in the Middle East includes the Gaza strip and the West bank region. These regions are full of several sites of historical importance which have the capability of attracting tourists and travelers. But with the political conditions in the region every tourist thinks twice before entering this region with the aim of exploring this potential hotwire territory. The region of West bank is one of rare old places which have found mention in the Old and New Testaments and boasts of regions famed with world’s oldest archeological findings. Hostilities have continued to brew between the Arabs and the Jews. Dramatic changes in the region began when during the First World War the British troops seeked partnership from both the Arabs and the Jews of Palestine. This resulted in the formation of dubious and inconsistent deals with both the groups which finally ended with the British promising to support the Jews in their fight to get their homeland in Palestine.

The various destinations in the region can be accessed by means of the Sheruts which are small mini busses which continuously ply between these destinations. Taxis are the other used mode of transportation. Owing to the tension in the region there are several check point which have been opened up throughout the region. Therefore, one should be prepared for regular frisking and checking’s. some modes of transport might just transit you from one check point to the other hence resulting in frequent changes of transporting means. If one decides to travel from the dead Sea towards northern Israel through the West bank region then he can also consider the option of hiring a car and driving it down themselves as this region is relatively free of any major risks and checks.

A visit to the Church of Nativity, the birth place of Jesus Christ, located on Manger Square in Bethlehem is considered to be the dream of Christians worldwide. The church is an original 4th century structure which was commissioned by Emperor Constantine and its further renovation was carried forward by Emperor Justinian. Located in Hebron is the Cave of Machpelah which is presumed to be the burial place of Abraham. Overlaying the cave is the famous Ibrahimi Mosque. This place is thronged by both Jews and Muslims alike for the religious importance the place holds. Palestinians are now in control of one half of the mosque while the other half is under the Israeli’s. Looking to have come straight out from the rushes of an English classic is the St George’s Monastery. Perched halfway up the cliff in Wadi Qelt this structure which was named after St George of Koziba is an amazing architectural delight.

Surrounded by territories know for its notorious activities, these destinations still manage to bring in tourists to explore the Palestinian territories beyond the guns and warzones.
