The Bismarck Archipelago has 2 main islands: New Britain and New Ireland. Both of the Bismarck A – and the nearby Solomon Islands lie in the collision zone of 2 tectonic plates; the Indian – Australian and Pacific plates. The fire dances of the bainings tribe are fascinating. The New Britain Trench is situated in the Solomon Sea between New Britain and the Solomon Islands. The trench reaches a depth of 9,140 meters at its deepest point. In the area around the trench, tectonic forces continue to suck pieces of the ocean’s floor into the Earth’s Mantle causing the trench to expand.

The Solomon Islands and the Bismarck Archipelago are located inside the Pacific “Ring of Fire” which extends along the edges of the Pacific Ocean. The Bismarck Archipelago belongs to Papua New Guinea and consists of more than 200 islands – most covered by dense rainforests. There are several active volcanoes in the archipelago. The territory of the Solomon Islands is divided between two parallel island groups. The Solomons are located south east of Bougainville Island, an island territory of Papua New Guinea. With more than 1,000 islands and a total land area of 28,000 km2, the Solomon Islands form one of the largest archipelagoes in the Pacific Ocean. The island nation lies around 1,860 kilometers from Australia and stretches over a distance of approximately 11,400 kilometers from North to South. The main islands in the Archipelago (Choiseul, New Georgia, Santa Isabel, Makira and Guadal Canal) are all of volcanic origin and are covered by thick forests.

The Coral Reefs off the coast of the Solomon Islands are one of the country’s most popular attractions. The country’s reefs are home to a diverse collection of marine plants and animals. The Louisiade Archipelago is an island group off the south eastern coast of New Guinea. The Archipelago includes several large islands of volcanic origin as well as many small coral islands. Both the Bismarck Archipelago and the Solomon islands get abundant rainfall, especially during the rainy season. Rennell Island — located south of Guadal Canal consist of various traditional dance troupes.

New Caledonia is 400 kilometers long and has a maximum width of 50 kilometers. The island has an extraordinary wealth of mineral resources including deposits of nickel, gold, copper, iron and silver. Just north of New Caledonia’s main island lie 2 large parallel coral reefs the grand recif de cook and the recif de francais. With the exception of the main island, most of New Caledonia’s islands are flat coral islands. The tallest mountain in the Archipelago is the Massif de Humboldt (1,635 meters). The culture of New Caledonia has been greatly influenced by the cultures of France and the surrounding Melasian islands. The island has been politically linked to France since the middle of the 19th century and French is the dominant language on New Caledonia and the smaller islands around it. The indigenous people of New Caledonia – the Melanesian Kanaks – now make up less than half of the current population.

Visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to these breathtaking Places.
