The Kingdom of Sweden, is located in Northern Europe. Historians believe that this country was inhabited for centuries, before the Vikings finally came. Today, Sweden is a major exporter of copper, iron and timber. The capital is Stockholm, and the official language is Swedish. The Swedish have always been applauded for their broad outlook in life especially, in permitting the registration of partnerships for couples of the same sex. That same attitude can be seen in the natives, where the majority comprises of the Swedish people, followed by Finns, Germans, Dutch, Turks and so on.  Their contributions to music, cinema and literature have been substantial.

Sweden has it all- great shopping spots, thriving culture, mountain ranges, beautiful glaciers and forests. A nature lover is sure to be thrilled with the many natural wonders that can be seen here. Sweden is home to some world famous cities. Stockholm is built on fourteen islands, and is very cosmopolitan. Visiting the Gamla Stan( old town), is a good way to start a tour. The Storkyrkan and Riddarholm Church, dating back to the 13th century are worth seeing. The Royal Palace, where one can see crown jewels, state apartments and the museum overlooks the harbour.  The Stadshuset, gives one a great view of the city from its tower. Visit the Vasa Museum, which has a 360-year-old warship, on the island of Djurgarden. A day at the open-air museum with an aquarium and a zoo, called Skansen is entertaining. Museum such as the Nordic Museum, Waldemarsudde House and the Historical Museum, are worth a visit. If art is your interest, then the National Museum, is the place to go to for unique collections of paintings, sculpture and drawings. Malmo is famous for its beaches and parks. The Slottsparken, opened in 1900 is a must visit. The Pildammsparken park which has many ‘garden rooms’, and many varieties of flowers is beautiful. The city district called Vastra hamnen, home to many offices and buildings on the waterfront is a good place for a walk. Malmo also has the Ribbersborg beach, which is beautiful. Gothenburg is a fascinating city with parks, castles and culture. A trip to the Alvsborgs Fastning fortress, built in the 17th century, is worth your time. There is even a church on the island. A visit to the 18th century Gunnebo castle, neoclassical in style, is a good day trip.

Although you are sure to see plenty of natural beauty wherever you go on Sweden, a trip to the Swedish Lapland, in the north is a must. Mountain resorts such as Abisko and Bjorkliden are often visited. Hikers head to the Kebnekaise, which is Sweden’s highest mountain. The famous Icehotel can be seen near Kiruna. Mountains and glaciers can be seen in the Sarek and Abisko National Parks. A trip to the forests that cover much of Sweden, will bring you face to face with animals such as brown bears, wolves, moose and the lynx.

If you are truly game to try something different this vacation, then Sweden is the perfect place to head to.
