It is sad to realize that a country with a high tourist potential as Taiwan is left undiscovered by most of the tourist community. This small secluded destination is a mine of visual treats and also is a living testimony for being a destination where ancient cultural practices are still followed with the same sincerity and dedication as it was done ages ago. But Taiwan has not remained caught up in its traditions and has rather moved on with times but has taken its values along with it. so while one gets to marvel at its various man made delights and sights it can at the same time enjoy the cultural richness which can be sighted everywhere in Taiwan. Beyond the modern landscape of Taiwan lies some of the most beautiful patches of sand which have remained hidden from the outside world till now. The tropical beauty presented here is simply spectacular. Taiwan is a county of sheer contrasts. Where on one end there is present some of the most stunning natural sights drenched in its rich heritage at the same time there are present locations which signify the modern times which have heralded its way inside Taiwan.

The country of Taiwan has spent most of its time under the rule of colonizing powers that made this country a part of their kingdom. The Chinese marched in first and then came the European powers. The Portuguese were the first ones to set foot on this land as early as in 1517. They were subsequently followed by the Dutch and the Spanish. Control of this country was then subsequently taken back by the Chinese and Taiwan remained under their rule till the Second World War. It was during the Second World War that Japan took notice of Taiwan and took it under its power. It held on to this country till the world war and then the control was subsequently ceded back to the Chinese.  Major uprising took place in the country to oppose the rule by the Chinese but even till date the status of its independence remains uncertain as Taiwan proclaims itself as independent while China is refusing to budge from its stand to claim that the country of Taiwan is still its part.

Like most tourists it is a better idea to start ones holiday in Taiwan with a visit to Taipei 101. This building was until recently being credited as to being the tallest building in the world. Situated on tp of this huge structure is an observatory which is surely the best spot to get a fantastic birds eye view of the entire area. One gets the opportunity to feast on the beautiful natural sights which are on display from this height. Ranking high on the list of natural spectacles present in Taiwan is the Taroko gorge which is a ravine with steep sides exhibiting marvelous marble deposits. There are ample possibilities present in Taiwan to allow you to get extremely close with some of the best and scenic natural views. Coming in this category is the chance to drive down on the scenic northeast coastal road. Surrounded by dense foliage it aids in providing panoramic views of the Pacific ocean as well as the China sea and therefore is the closest that one can imagine themselves to spectacular beauty. Similar sights awaits tourists at the East Rift valley which is Taiwan’s largest fault line but surely the greenest and the most fertile area that one would have seen in the recent times. Not worth missing is the chance to admire the spectacular Penghu archipelago which have columns of basalt rock formed by the larva thrown out from volcanoes which subsequently cooled down and solidified.  Nature lovers can visit the Kenting National Park as well as indulge in bird watching.
