USA saw this opportunity as the chance of squashing communist rule completely in the region and hence joined this fighting. It took almost a decade of fighting to finally allow the ceasefire to come through. By then most of Vietnam was destroyed and the country was in shambles. Steady and delinquent progress by the people as well as the subsequent Vietnamese government has enabled Vietnam to get back on its feet and move forward.
