It is sad but it is a fact that the name Vietnam conjures up images war, blood and destruction. The Vietnam war ravaged the beautiful landscaped beauty of this small south eastern country. the gore and the bloodshed portrayed Vietnam as a weak country. But lots has changed since those early days. The country might be still under the rule of the socialists but they are allowing foreigners to come to their country and marvel at their attractions. The Chinese have relinquished control over the Vietnam for the longest of time periods. For about 10 decades China kept Vietnam under its control. But recorded facts point out that previous to China several other kingdoms too had Vietnam as a part of their empire. These included the Hung Dynansty and the Funan Kingdom. The Chinese were finally overpowered by the rebellious feat of the local Vietnamese. But the withdrawal of China bought with it the European colonizing powers who took parts and regions of Vietnam under their control. The French and the Spanish were the notable European countries to have made Vietnam a part of their colonizing legacy. It was finally in 1945 that Vietnam under the robust leadership of the great leader Ho Chi Minh declared its independence. But peace was not yet destined to establish itself here. In 1954 Vietnam was divided into North and South Vietnam as a consequence of the Geneva Accord. This resulted in the brewing of war and conflict between these two divisional entities of Vietnam. USA saw this opportunity as the chance of squashing communist rule completely in the region and hence joined this fighting. It took almost a decade of fighting to finally allow the ceasefire to come through. By then most of Vietnam was destroyed and the country was in shambles. Steady and delinquent progress by the people as well as the subsequent Vietnamese government has enabled Vietnam to get back on its feet and move forward.
